Is There Anything Interesting In The Kyoukai No Kanata Romance?

Thursday, February 23, 2017
Also known as, "Initial thoughts about the Akihito Kanbara and Mirai Kuriyama romance in Beyond the Boundary."

Or, as I initially knew them - the blond guy and that pink-haired girl with the glasses.

Mirai Kuriyama and Akihito Kanbara, kyoukai no kanata, beyond the boundary, anime
Do you think the love between Akihito Kanbara and
Mirai Kuriyama from the Kyoukai no Kanata anime is romantic, believable and realistic?

I just saw a bit of the Kyoukai no Kanata (#ad) or Beyond the Boundary anime series, so don’t really know much about it yet. And that’s why there’s no spoiler warning in this post.

Anyway, my initial thoughts about the Akihito Kanbara and Mirai Kuriyama romance is that I don’t like it. It’s not that I don’t like them. No, wait, scratch that.

Actually, from what I’ve seen so far of Mirai Kuriyama, I don’t really like her. Who knows, maybe if I see more of this series / show, I’ll get to like her, but, at the moment, nope, totally not liking her. I talk a bit more about the reasons why in this post here.

Akihito Kanbara isn’t that bad though. He seems like an all right character, so far. I’m just not sure about pairing those 2 up.

So far, their romance isn’t and doesn’t look believable. Not seeing any chemistry between them or anything like that.

Well, Kanbara apparently likes people who wear glasses. Oh, look, Mirai wears glasses. What a coincidence. Not. Does that sound contrived to you or what?

So far, haven’t really seen the 2 interact much with each other yet. The few times I saw them talking or hanging out - it just didn’t really seem or feel right.

For instance, I saw this scene where Kuriyama went to Akihito’s house. At that time, Sakura Inami was there, but Kanbara didn’t tell Mirai about this.

The pink-haired girl insisted on knowing who was with him though and she kept pushing him to tell her.

I found that kind of annoying. Like, how is that her business? It’s the guy’s house, right, not hers? So what’s it to her if he brings people to his house?

He should be able to bring whoever he wants to his house without having to consult or tell Kuriyama about it. In this scene, it seemed like she believed that she was entitled to know what Kanbara’s up to.

They're not even lovers, so it's all the more reason why it's none of her business what he does. They may be friends, but that doesn't mean he has to tell her things.

If they're really friends, she should understand if there are things he doesn't want to talk about with her.

Anyway, from what I could see so far, unfortunately, it seems pretty obvious that those 2 would end up together. Sigh. How predictable.

Prove me wrong? It’s really gonna happen though, isn’t it? Those 2 are gonna be a couple, aren’t they?

Oh, well. If that’s really the case, if I see more of Beyond the Boundary / Kyoukai no Kanata, I just hope that their relationship improves and becomes more believable.

So, what about you? What do you think about the Mirai Kuriyama and Akihito Kanbara romance?

Side note: yeah, haven’t finished watching this anime yet, but I’ve no problems with spoilers. So, feel free to reveal relevant and not-so-relevant plot points or whatever.

1 Of The Most Pointless Things About Sugar Sugar Rune

Friday, February 17, 2017
It's not just pointless. It's also annoying, not to mention a complete and total waste of time. What am I talking about?

Well, first, Sugar Sugar Rune (#ad) is an anime and manga series by Moyoco Anno. There's a whole lot of things to like and dislike about it, but this particular post will focus entirely on the transformation scenes / sequences that is prevalent in the show.

Who hates these transformation sequences? The first few times are a-okay, so we can see how the main characters transform.

But if we have to see the same sequence each and every time they transform, well, that gets tiring and boring fast, doesn’t it?

I mean, we’ve already seen it, so it’s not that interesting anymore and it’s just a waste of time. I thought it was nice that we didn’t have to see the entire transformation sequence of Chocolat Meilleure / Kato, at least in episode 2 of the anime.

She quickly transformed, and, while I like that, what I don’t like is how they wasted so much time with how long it took for her to get her magic wand.

Seriously, what’s with all the attention to her wand and all the twirling and stuff? What a complete and total waste of time. Ugh.

We may not have seen her entire transformation sequence, but we still wasted a lot of time anyway. How utterly pointless.

Chocolat Meilleure / Kato and Vanilla Mieux / Ice, sugar sugar rune, anime, manga, moyoco anno
Is it really necessary for us to see Chocolat and
Vanilla's magical transformation sequence in every episode of Sugar Sugar Rune?

The really annoying thing is the fact that this isn't an isolated case. This kind of useless and pointless scene happens in pretty much all the episodes of Sugar Sugar Rune.

Every single time, we have to see Chocolat and even her best friend, Vanilla Mieux / Ice, transform into their magical witch outfits. If we've seen it once, we've seen it a thousand times. Give it a break already. Ugh.

What's worse is how there are episodes wherein the 2 would transform several times because they transform every time they have to use their magic.

That's just lame, you know, because why do they have to transform every time they have to use their magic?

To add insult to injury, this kind of thing only happens with Chocolat and Vanilla. There are other magical people in the world of Sugar Sugar Rune, but none of these people have to undergo long, annoying, pointless, and useless magical transformation sequences just to use their magic powers.

So, why is it only different with the 2 main characters? The show can't even get the mechanics of their magic system right. If the main charas need to transform to use their magic, everyone else with magic should follow the same principles.

So, what do you think? Do you hate transformation sequences too? Or can you tolerate them?

Kyoukai No Kanata: 3 Reasons Why Hiroomi Is Absolutely Cool

Saturday, February 11, 2017
Also known as, "Initial thoughts about Hiroomi Nase from Beyond the Boundary."

Or, as I initially knew him, "scarf guy" or "that guy in Kyoukai no Kanata / Beyond the Boundary anime series that wears a scarf."

Just caught a few episodes of this show, so don’t really know much about it yet. That’s also why there’s no spoiler warning for this here post. There’s really nothing to spoil. LOL.

anime, beyond the boundary, kyoukai no kanata

Anyway, my initial thoughts about Hiroomi Nase is that I like him so far. He’s actually pretty good-looking and he seems pretty awesome too.

Let's take a closer look at what makes him absolutely cool (especially when compared to other characters like Mirai Kuriyama):

1. Hiroomi has a unique weapon

The scarf he’s wearing makes him stand out since it adds a splash of color to his character. I also like how he uses his scarf as a weapon. I think that’s cool.

It actually reminded me of the Hunter x Hunter anime and manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi because many of the characters in said show have varying unique and unusual weapons / abilities. We have characters who use pipes, cell phones and even hair as weapons.

I like that because, not only is it interesting, it also makes it different from shows / series that use the usual weapons like swords, guns, etc (not that those aren’t or can’t be interesting either because they can be).

And, sure, Kyoukai no Kanata's main character, Mirai Kuriyama, has a pretty cool weapon too (being able to turn her own blood into a sword), but her ability comes with a lot of angst.

From what I've seen so far, it's like she's such a special snowflake that she's the only one who has such power and she's treating her ability like some curse or something like that and that comes across as quite annoying.

At least, with Nase, it doesn't seem like he has any angst about his ability. It is just what it is and that's perfectly fine.

2. Hiroomi is a good friend

I like the friendship between Hiroomi Nase and Akihito Kanbara (that blond guy / the guy with the blond hair who appears to be the main male character of Beyond the Boundary (#ad)).

From what I’ve seen so far, the 2 seem to be very good friends. It's interesting to see their close camaraderie. It looks like they really care about each other.

3. Hiroomi cares about his little sister

Apparently, one of the girls that hangs around scarf guy and blond guy is Hiroomi’s little sister. Her name is Mitsuki Nase. Can’t say much about her yet though.

Looks like she’s pretty close to her brother though. I saw that part where Hiroomi was helping her out (that part where he used his scarf; that was cool). I like how protective he is of his sister.

It reminded me of Touya Kinomoto from the Card Captor Sakura / Cardcaptor Sakura anime and manga series by CLAMP because the guy was always looking out for his little sister, Sakura Kinomoto.

So, what about you? What do you think about scarf guy?

Side note: yeah, haven’t finished watching this anime yet, but I’ve no problems with spoilers. So, feel free to reveal relevant and not-so-relevant plot points or whatever.

This Will Make You Hate The Sugar Sugar Rune Ohayou Scene

Sunday, February 05, 2017
Also known as, "Problems with the Pierre and Chocolat good morning scene in Sugar Sugar Rune episode 2."

In episode 2 of the Sugar Sugar Rune (#ad)  anime and manga series by Moyoco Anno, there’s a scene where Pierre Tempête de Neige, the main male character, apparently says "ohayou / ohayo / good morning" to Chocolat Meilleure / Kato, the main female character. What’s wrong with this scene?

Pierre Tempête de Neige, Chocolat Meilleure / Kato, anime, manga, sugar sugar rune, moyoco anno
What's so special about Chocolat that Pierre only has eyes for her?

(*Warning for possible spoilers for said show)

Did Pierre really say "ohayou" to Chocolat?

You know, in that scene, everyone readily assumes that Pierre said "good morning" to Chocolat and even the narrative itself wants us to believe that, but I honestly don’t see why this has to automatically be the case.

I mean, in that scene, Chocolat and Vanilla Mieux / Ice were standing next to each other and they were facing these 3 girls who were telling them all about what a Gary Stu Pierre is.

Then, we see Pierre walking behind them and he passes by Vanilla first and then Chocolat.

He says “good morning” as he passes by, so, really, it can be seen that he was saying those words to all of the girls he was passing by and not just to Chocolat.

What's so special about Chocolat that she's the only one Pierre notices?

Seriously, why does the main female character have to be so special (other than unfortunately being the main character) that she’s the only one that the main male character will say good morning to?

This really annoys me because, seriously, why does it have to be Chocolat Kato?

And I feel bad for all those other girls because they’re the ones who like Pierre and Chocolat claims not to like him, so it’s annoying how she’s the one who apparently got the greeting.

Chocolat is a Mary Sue

In this scene, Chocolat seems like a total Mary Sue because, apparently, she’s the only one who’s so special that Pierre has to say good morning to her even though they don’t really actually know each other and they barely said more than a few words to each other.

Oh, hey, look, Gary Stu and Mary Sue. Hmm, maybe this is a match made in heaven after all. Maybe they are meant to be. LOL. What do you think?
