What To Dislike About The Gekkou-Takeshi Fight Scene In Magical Warfare?

Friday, January 06, 2017
Caught a few episodes of the Magical Warfare / Mahou Sensou anime series.

Seems pretty interesting so far, but I’ve some questions about the fight between Gekkou and Takeshi*. What’s there to dislike about it?

*Warning for possible spoilers for said fight scene

I saw this scene wherein the magic school (no, not Hogwarts. LOL :-). It’s called Subaru Magic Academy) that the main characters attend is attacked.

This leads to a fight between Takeshi Nanase and his younger brother, Gekkou Nanase.

While the battle between the 2 was pretty interesting and made me want to know more about how the magic system in this series worked, it also made me wonder about that girl who was watching the fight.

Her name is Kurumi Isoshima. During the fight, she pretty much just stood there, screaming. But why? Seriously, how is that supposed to help Takeshi (she was clearly rooting for the older brother)?

I wanted to know why she didn’t do anything, why she just stood there, watching, screaming and basically doing nothing at all.

It’s because, earlier, I saw her with Takeshi and she was also clearly a student of the magic school.

Doesn’t that mean that she knows magic? Can she do magic or can’t she? If she can’t, then what in the world is she doing in a magic school?

If she can, then why didn’t she use magic to help Takeshi? Why didn’t she at least try?

If it doesn’t work, then, at least she tried, right? And, at the very least, the audience doesn’t have to wonder about this. Or am I just missing something here or what?

I also want to know why she stayed there, why she continued to watch the fight between Gekkou and Takeshi Nanase.

I mean, she clearly couldn’t protect Takeshi by herself, so why did she stay? Why didn’t she at least leave to go get help?

She could have made herself useful and went looking for someone who can help her friend instead of just standing there doing nothing.

She practically let herself get captured. What’s up with that? As for Takeshi, I’ve to wonder why he didn’t die during his fight with Gekkou.

I know, he’s apparently, unfortunately, the main character (so far, I find that I’m not all that impressed with him), but, aside from that fact, is there a believable and realistic reason why/how he wasn’t killed during that scene?

I suppose you can say that it’s because Gekkou and Takeshi are siblings, but, is that really it?

From what I’ve seen so far, Gekkou seems to really hate his big brother, so much so that he didn’t have qualms picking a fight with him or hurting him.

So, what, does he draw the line at murder or something? I dunno. What do you think?

Side note: yeah, haven’t finished watching this anime yet, but I’ve no problems with spoilers. So, feel free to reveal relevant and not-so-relevant plot points or whatever.

But, as a courtesy to those who may not want spoilers, kindly tell people if your comment/note/message/etc includes spoilers. Thanks :-)

What's Wrong With The Fenris Fenrir, Iris Irine, And Bijou Fight (Ragnarok Manhwa)?

ragnarok: into the abyss, manhwa, bijou, troll, fenris fenrir, iris irine
In Ragnarok: Into The Abyss manhwa, we see Fenris Fenrir and Iris Irine battling against Bijou. What could possibly be wrong with this fight scene?

The fight between the aforementioned women starts in Volume 5 and is continued in Volume 6.

Needless to say, the fight is quite long and drawn-out (but let's not focus too much on that as there is already a post that discusses the seemingly never-ending fight scenes in this comic).

Let's take a look at some of the things that make this fight rather frustrating and even aggravating (aside from how long it is).
ragnarok: into the abyss, manhwa, fenris fenrir, bijou, iris irine, fight scene
Fenris Fenrir and Iris Irine are teamed up for this fight, but Bijou isn't outnumbered because she has a troll to help her. Why is it that either Fenris or Iris have the tendency to just stand there, watch and do nothing while the other is busy battling the troll or Bijou?

For instance, in Chapter 49 of Volume 6, we see Fenrir just standing by and watching. But why? Why isn't she doing anything? Why isn't she helping her friend? Why can't the two women work hand-in-hand together in order to defeat Bijou and her troll?

We later on see that Bijou has almost gotten to the Heart of Ymir, but if the 2 main characters had just split up the job between themselves, then this might not have happened.

Why didn't they agree and decide that one of them will take care of the troll while the other battles Bijou? This could have helped ensure the safety of the shard, so that their enemy will have a harder time getting to it.

As it is, with how one of the protagonists is just standing by and doing nothing and with how none of them pay much attention to Bijou, this was practically an invitation for the latter to go and get the heart shard. They might as well have just handed it over to her without a fight if they weren't going to take this seriously.

Besides, doing it the way they did just seemed to prolong and draw out the fight even more when it could have ended far sooner. It was wonderful and about time when the troll was finally defeated.

However, don't you wonder why Iris Irine had to be the one to land the finishing blow with her sword? Why couldn't it have been Fenris instead? What was the reason why she couldn't be the one to kill the troll?

She has an awesome and cool weapon too and we've seen how good she is with her staff and how magical and powerful said staff is, much like Iris' weapon. So, why was it Iris' job to destroy the troll? This is especially baffling considering how it seems that Iris isn't really much of a fighter.

She's pretty good at fighting, but we mostly see her as being the support or the healer of the group. Do you think that the 2 protagonists should have split the job and decided who will fight with who? Who do you think should have destroyed Bijou's troll?

What's To Dislike About The Chaos, Loki, And Skurai Fight (Ragnarok Manhwa)?

skurai, loki, chaos, ragnarok: into the abyss, manhwa
Just what is there to dislike about the Chaos, Loki and Skurai fight in Ragnarok: Into The Abyss? What can be said to be so wrong and even annoying about this scene in the manhwa?

The fight between the 3 aforementioned characters happens in Volume 4 of the comic. One of the first things that can be said about this particular scene is that it's very, very, very long.

Those words might not even be enough to adequately describe things because this fight scene seemed like it would never end. Seriously, it just went on and on and on. It was such a drag.
chaos, loki, skurai, fight scene, ragnarok: into the abyss, manhwa
We first start with Loki and Chaos fighting one-on-one with each other in Chapter 32 of Volume 4. This fight scene goes on long enough that one has to wonder why our resident main character won't let Fenris Fenrir and Iris Irine help him when he's clearly on the losing side against the assassin.

Seriously, what are the readers supposed to think of our protagonist when he acts like that? Why won't he ask for help and why does he insist on trying to defeat Loki on his own when he's clearly having a hard time? This just prolongs their fight in such an unnecessary way.

Just when you think it can't get any worse, it actually does, because, when we get to Chapter 35 of the same Volume, Skurai shows up seemingly from out of nowhere. Why did he just suddenly show up? And why does he want to take on both Loki and Chaos at the same time? Wasn't his plan to let these 2 fight and then to take on Chaos when the hero's been weakened?

After all, isn't that the whole reason why he destroyed the Assassins' Guild (so he could blame all this on the protagonist, not that that makes sense, but that's what the graphic novel says anyway)? Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be getting any answers to those questions any time soon as the 3 just get on with fighting each other and this scene gets even longer than it already is.

chaos, loki, skurai, ragnarok: into the abyss, manhwa, fight scene
Now that Chaos is fighting against 2 people, we once again have to wonder why Iris and Fenris aren't helping their friend. Two against one is certainly not fair even if Loki and Skurai are also fighting against each other.

Moreover, if the ladies are so concerned about innocent people dying and getting involved in this fight, then why aren't they doing anything about it?

Why are they so focused on watching this long and never-ending fight instead of helping all the people get away? They could be leading the people out of harm's way. They could ensure that no one will get hurt or get caught up in this 3-way fight.

More than that though, let's take a look at the people of Prontera who are around to watch this really long fight scene. If these people already saw that some of them died because of all the fighting, then what in the world are they still doing here?

Why are they still continuing to watch this annoying fight scene? They should have run away already before they end up getting involved in this and losing their lives. Seriously, what are they waiting for? Why are they watching this aggravating fight?

ragnarok: into the abyss, manhwa, loki, skurai, chaos
This is really something that warrants being asked especially when we later see that a little girl gets in the way of the Chaos, Loki and Skurai fight.

If all these people had left already, then that girl wouldn't have gotten in the way of the fight. After all, even others who weren't near the 3 currently embroiled in this match should have heard the sounds of fighting.

They should have known to get out of the way and not even approach the fighting trio. Is it supposed to be believable that a little girl suddenly shows up from out of nowhere (or so it seems) just to get in the way of the fight?

This just ends up coming across as unbelievable, not to mention contrived. What do you think? What are your thoughts on the fight between Chaos, Loki and Skurai? Do you wish that it ended sooner?
